If I was as smart as the records at Bennington All-Girls Private School say I am, I would go off to college, get a degree and meet a nice, young, scholarly man. A safe, low-key man who would love me and give me children. A man who isn’t wild, edgy and dark. A man who isn’t way older than me, who isn’t more dangerous, powerful and exciting than he should be. A man who isn’t a gun-for-hire. I guess it’s true what they say: good girls are drawn to bad boys. And they don’t come any more badass than Carson Tanner Blackthorne.

Sneak Peek at My New WIP!

for-sparrow-mock-upLOST & BOUND, Dream Dominant Book 2 has been out for a little over a month and I’m happily at work on Book 3, FOR SPARROW.   This cover is just a mock-up.  I’ll be having a sexy cover designed by a graphic design professional when the book is finished.

When Jessi Crenshaw’s husband Graham died suddenly, she lost more than her spouse.  She lost the Dominant to her submissive.  But it turns out Graham had an idea that he was not well, and he tapped a temporary replacement for himself, at least until Jessi gets back on her feet.  Enter tall, dark, and Dominant firefighter and paramedic, Judd Farris.  It’s an unconventional relationship, but Judd has a promise to keep.

Here’s an excerpt of this very WIP…

Jessi’s hands shook.  With her index finger she traced the writing on the front of the envelope.  She glanced out the back door to see Judd kick off his shoes and sit on the edge of the pool, sinking his feet in the water.  Buddy flopped down beside him and rolled over, wanting his tummy scratched, and Judd obliged.

She turned her attention back to the envelope.  Her irrational self told her that if she didn’t open it, somehow everything could go back to normal.  But curiosity won the moment, and she slid her thumb under the flap and carefully opened the letter.

My dearest Sparrow,

I’m so sorry I’m not there with you.  I can feel my heart beginning to wear out.  Please don’t be angry with me for not telling you, I know how you worry about things.  We’ve had a good life together.  I’ve told you before and I’m telling you again, you are the best thing that ever happened to me.  The fact that you are the mother of my children amazes the hell out of me.  What did I ever do to deserve such a terrific family?

Jessi reached up to wipe a silent tear from her cheek.  Self-consciously, she flicked her eyes out to the pool deck to find that Judd was watching her intently, and he flashed a sympathetic smile.  Sniffing, she read on.

It would be pointless, I suppose, to tell you not to mourn.  Just don’t do it too long.  And don’t you dare wear black.  God, I hate all that maudlin bullshit.  Now Sparrow, you and I know that you are a natural submissive.  I don’t want you to feel lost without a Dominant in your life.  I want you to find one, a true Gentleman who will cherish you in the way you deserve.  One who will nurture the sexy, sensual woman you truly are.  Don’t you go back to some kind of vanilla half-existence.  That would really piss me off.

Tears still streaming, she laughed because she could almost hear Graham’s voice.

If you have this letter, you’ve met Judd.  I’ve known him for several years now, and he’s a solid Dominant.  I’ve asked him to check in on you and to take care of some things around the house.  I’ve also asked him to help you out until you find a Dominant of your own.  Judd is willing to give you knee time, Sparrow, to help you settle your mind and find peace.  I don’t mean sex and kink.  He would be a sort of ‘emotional Dominant,’ just until you get back on your feet.

On the other hand, if you found yourself attracted to Judd, it would make me happy knowing that you’d be in good hands.  He’s a good man, Jessi, a gentle man and a Gentleman.  He would be a perfect sexual Dominant for you.  I worry thinking about the dangers out there, Sparrow.  You and Judd could make your own way.

Mortified, Jessi glanced out the back door.  Thankfully, Judd was staring out across the pool.  “I can’t believe you’re telling me these things,” she murmured to herself.

Anyway, I trust you, Sparrow.  You’re smart and strong, and I’m so proud of you.  Never forget that you are absolutely the love of my life.  I’m forever grateful to you for taking my hard, stuffy heart and helping me to be a better man than I ever dreamed about being.  Be sure the kids know how much I love them.  I love you, my Sparrow, with all my heart.  Live happy.  Find love and cherish it.

Your loving husband and Master, G.

Jessi was completely undone.  Sobbing, she folded her arms on the counter and rested her head on them.  She cried until she felt she had no tears left.  Moments passed and she raised her head.  It hurt and her eyes felt puffy.  With a glance at Judd and Buddy still sitting by the pool, she went into the powder room and splashed water on her face.

Taking a deep breath, she forced her feet out the back door and across the pool deck.  Judd smiled up at her kindly.  “How are you holding up?”

Jessi shrugged as she stepped out of her sandals and sat beside him, slipping her feet into the cool water.  They sat without speaking, each gently sliding feet through the water, watching the ripples cross the pool and return to them.  Judd moved his foot under her leg and raised her foot to the surface.  The fuchsia nail polish was chipped and peeling.

“How long since you had a pedicure, Jessi?” he asked gently.

She moved her foot away and looked at him sharply.  “What exactly did your letter say, Judd?”

He exhaled forcefully.  “Like I said, he was worried about you.  He said that you’re submissive and that you might need somebody in your life until you find your way.”  He glanced at her knowingly.  “When was the last time your mind was quiet, little one?”

A tear slid down Jessi’s cheek and she swiped at it roughly.  “So you’re my appointed Dominant, is that it?” she asked testily.

“It’s not like that.”  Judd looked at her steadily.  “Graham and I were friends.  We talked about Dominance and submission for hours over the years.  He trusted me.  Trusted me with the one thing that meant the most to him in the world.”

He paused, gazing at her thoughtfully.  “He didn’t want you to run into the wrong kind of man while you’re looking to ease your mind, to fill that emptiness that I see in your eyes.”  Jessi stubbornly looked away and swiped at her cheek again.

“You know, it’s entirely up to you.  I’m going to complete the list of things around your house.  I promised him I would.  But whether or not you accept me as a surrogate Dominant?  Only you can decide that.”

He ran a frustrated hand through his hair.  “You miss knee time, I know you do,” he said softly.  “A chance to just let go of all the concerns that weigh you down.”  Jessi turned back to look at him, her expression softer.  “I’m not talking about kinky sex, tying you up and all that.  I’m offering you a chance to clear your mind of everything, let me carry your burdens for a while.”

“Why?  Why would you do that?”  Her voice was strained.

Judd shrugged.  “I’m Dominant.  It’s what I crave, to be needed, to take care of a submissive.”  He laughed lightly.  “I’m a Dominant without a submissive, and you’re a submissive without a Dominant.  For the time being, it works out well.”

He gazed at her steadily, kindness in his brown eyes.  “Just say the word.  Do you want knee time, little one?”

Another tear rolled down her cheek.  And she nodded.  “Yes,” she whispered.  “I want knee time.”

He smiled patiently.  “Yes, what, little one?”

“Yes, Master.”

Judd shook his head.  “I’m not your Master, little one.  Yes, Sir will do.”

Unconsciously, Jessi bowed her head submissively.  “Yes, Sir, may I please have knee time?”

“Yes, you may,” he responded gently.  “There is a big leather chair in your den.  Be kneeling beside the chair in two minutes.  Your eyes will be closed and you will clear your mind.  Do you understand, little one?”

“Yes, Sir.”  Jessi stood and started to walk away, but then turned and looked at him anxiously.  “My clothes, Sir?”

“Your clothes are fine the way they are,” he answered.  “Hurry.  I’ll come to you shortly.”

“Yes, Sir,” she said, and she hurried into the house.

Big News!

I’m so happy to announce that Just One Night, my naughty little novella, is finally available at online retailers everywhere. Just One Night is the story of Katie Parker, a woman on a Caribbean cruise with her best girlfriends.  She decides that what she needs is a night of anonymous passion, the better to help her get over a bad break-up.  Enter sexy Mac Coleman, who has had his fair share of romantic woes.  The mutual attraction is undeniable from the moment they meet.  But can Mac convince Katie that what they’ve found is worth more than just one night?

How about a little tease?

The pair parked themselves at a tiny table at the edge of the piano bar, the first place they’d come to in their search for a cocktail.  Katie watched him as he approached the bar and ordered for them.  She couldn’t get over how handsome he was, how he’d come outside looking for her.  This was exactly what she needed to take her mind off of her man problems back home.

She smiled up at him as he returned to their table carrying a margarita for her and a Scotch for himself.  “Cheers,” he said, raising his glass to hers.

“Cheers,” she murmured in return, and she sipped gratefully, counting on the liquid courage her glass offered.

“You know, we’ve gone about this all backwards.”  He rested his drink on the table and offered his right hand.  “My name is—“

“No!  No names,” Katie quickly interrupted.

Mac blinked in surprise.  “No names.  Why no names?”

“Just…because,” she stammered.  “No names, no personal information, we’ll just…keep it casual.”

“Keep it casual.”  Mac frowned.  “Okay.”  He gave her a curious look.  “Do you want me to leave?”

She shook her head, red curls swinging.  “No, I’d like you to stay.”

He gave a relieved smile.  “Good, because I’d like to stay.  So…no personal information.  Do you want to talk about work?”

“Oh, hell no!”

“Um, how about that weather?  That’s some pretty great weather out there tonight.”

Katie laughed lightly.  “I don’t mean to be a pain.”

Mac smiled back.  “You’re not a pain, exactly.  I just have to figure out the rules.  And you’re here with three other women?”

“You could see that in the dining room.  Where you were staring,” Katie observed.

“You know that because you were staring back,” he countered.

“And you’re here with two other men.”

Mac nodded.  “My brothers.  Oops!  Was that personal?”

“Now you’re making fun.”

He smiled ruefully.  “Maybe just a little bit.  This is kind of a bachelor party.  My kid brother is getting married.”

“A bachelor party?”  Katie laughed lightly.  “Shouldn’t you be getting back to the debauchery?”

Mac laughed.  “Not much debauchery with those two.  My older brother’s been married for years and Tommy’s head over heels for his fiancée.”  He glanced up at Katie.  “Oops!  More personal information.”

Katie sighed and sipped her drink.  “My friends and I get together for a week every summer.  We’ve known each other since high school.”

“There now, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”

Katie nodded firmly.  “We’re even, that’s all.”  She rested her forearm on the table and toyed with her glass.  Mac did the same, and as he did, his arm brushed against hers.  She made no effort to move away from him.  He intentionally rested his arm against hers, noting the electric charge he felt, wondering if she felt it, too.

Glancing up, he saw that she was watching him intently.  “So…you don’t want any personal information.  You don’t want to talk about work.  You don’t want me to leave.”

Katie shook her head.

“Okay, well we’ve got that settled.  What do you want?”  He watched her expectantly.

She stared at her glass as she swirled the remainder of her margarita.  Her buzz from the dinner wine combined with the icy cocktail made her feel bold.  She looked back up at Mac.

“Do you really want to know what I want?  I want just one night.  Just one night of anonymous, no-holds-barred, red-hot, no-strings-attached sex.  That’s what I want.”  She fixed him with a challenging stare.

“Whoa,” he breathed, eyes wide.

Katie looked down at her glass again.  “Too blunt?”

Mac leaned back in his chair, lips forming an O.  “That was blunt, all right, but I can respect that.  I’ve gotta ask, though.”  He sought out her eyes.  “Is there some guy at home waiting for you to come back?”

Katie shook her head.  “I’m not cheating on anybody.  You?”

He shook his head, too, and laughed humorlessly.  “What was it you said earlier?  Oh, hell no.”

She lightly stroked his arm as it rested on the table, delighting in the goose bumps that appeared there.  Her gaze traveled from there to his lap, which seemed to be taking an interest in the proceedings if the growing mound there was any indication.  She shifted her focus, sliding her gaze up his torso to those lips she’d noticed earlier.  God, I just want to suck on that lower lip.

She met his eyes again, saw the fire there, and knew it matched her own.  “So what do you say?”

“I say, have another margarita.  I just need to run to the little shop and pick up some…  Well, I didn’t actually expect that I’d need…”  He smiled apologetically.

Her voice was soft.  “I’ll wait right here.”

He took her hand and gently brushed his lips across her knuckles, gave her a wink, and left the bar.

Having spent the last six months available for .99 exclusively on Amazon, Just One Night is now also on iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and several other outlets. Just use this link:

Watch This Space–Highland Pursuits by Emmanuelle de Maupassant

highland-pursuits-a-scottish-romance-by-emmanuelle-de-maupassantEmmanuelle de Maupassant is thrilled to announce the launch of her saucy 1920s romance romp: ‘Highland Pursuits’.

In celebration, Emmanuelle is not only offering three signed paperback copies, via Goodreads here, but has her entire catalogue on sale for 99c/99p from March 1st-8th: Baby Love, Scarlet, Cautionary Tales and Gentlemen’s Club (as recommended by Stylist Magazine)

1920s debutante Lady Ophelia Finchingfield is banished to wildest Scotland to come to her senses, having refused a proposal from the Earl of Woldershire. In the care of her eccentric grandmother, Ophelia is soon caught between rugged widower Hamish and the villainous Comte de Montefiore.

She’s ready to play with fire, but will she burn more than her fingers?

I was fortunate enough to snag an ARC of Highland Pursuits, and trust me, you’re going to LOVE it.  Here’s my Amazon Review:

I loved this book!  But then, I’ve been a huge fan of Emmanuelle de Maupassant since I read The Gentlemen’s Club, which I also highly recommend.  In Highland Pursuits, young Ophelia is sent to visit her grandmother in Scotland as a punishment for declining the proposal of a proper, if boring, suitor.  But her grandmother’s progressive attitudes about life, love, and the role of women in society serve to fuel the fire Ophelia feels.  She’ll not be content to merely be some man’s property.

At their first meeting, she’s not impressed with the brooding but handsome Hamish, nor he with her.  It’s funny how love grows that way sometimes.  But complications abound, and the sexual tension between Ophelia and Hamish is palpable—you just ache for the pair to get together.

I actually read a shorter version of this story as part of an anthology.  De Maupassant has reworked the piece and added a few more nicely spicy scenes.  All in all, just another reason to love Emmanuelle de Maupassant.  5 BIG STARS!!

Listen to what other readers are saying…

I can’t tell you how much I love this book. It was a true delight to read. The author has captured 1920s Britain wonderfully, and her detail is exquisite. – Rachel De Vine

As a comedy of manners, this is exceptionally well done. – Fionna Guillaume

Highland Pursuits is a wry, clever, incredibly sexy romp… a completely engrossing, utterly enjoyable read. I can’t recommend it highly enough…fabulously fun – Malin James

The scene was set beautifully… I felt like I went back in time to high society Scotland – Christine of Sweet and Spicy Reads

Emmanuelle sends enormous thanks to her editor, Adrea Kore, for her help in bringing ‘Highland Pursuits’ into the world. She says: ‘Adrea is an incredibly talented writer, and a wonderful friend. Her editing skills helped bring the words alive. She is a marvel and I’m so glad that one day, forever ago, we found each other.’

‘Highland Pursuits’ draws inspiration from a short story of the same title Emmanuelle wrote originally for the charity fundraising anthology Because Beards: all proceeds have been given to the Movember Foundation.

This longer, novella, length offers more scope to explore the wonderful characters’ eye-popping shenanigans. Hamish and Ophelia were in Emmanuelle’s dreams for many weeks, as she wrote this story.

Pssst…  if you enjoy Highland Pursuits, don’t forget to leave a review. Reviews make books more visible online, bringing new eyes. If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, tag Emmanuelle in your review post and she’ll say hello.

Watch This Space–Night Music (Replay Book 5) by Nia Farrell

Still life with ancient Scandinavian sword on a furYes!  Book 5 of Nia Farrell’s Replay series is out today!  If you’re not familiar with the series, Replay is a luxurious BDSM resort where guests’ wildest fantasies can come true.

I have devoured the previous four installments and can’t wait to read Night Music.  Here’s the description:

Dr. Josef Brandt is the Austrian-born staff psychiatrist and a bisexual Dominant at Replay BDSM theme resort where patrons play in the past.  He’s something of a loner, but not by choice.  He’s been waiting to find his perfect complement—or complements, whoever he, she, or they might be.

When Hollywood comes to Replay’s Versailles Room, Sir Josef is cast as the father of young Mozart, portrayed by Aubrey Wolfe, a twenty-four-year-old musical savant.  Luc Vashon is Aubrey’s teacher and serves as an aide to the petite, legally blind pianist.  Recognizing that Luc’s feelings run much deeper, Josef decides to play Cyrano de Bergerac and advance Luc’s suit with Aubrey.

He never expected to fall for them both.

This book is an interracial MMF ménage BDSM erotic romance, written for ages 18+.

One thing I love about Nia Farrell’s books is that characters from other books pop up here and there in other books.  She leaves little Easter eggs for her fans all along the way.

So how about a spicy little excerpt?

Luc poured a glass of wine for Aubrey and opened two beers for the men.  The three drinks turned to six, then eight.  Feeling the effects, Josef knew he’d either need to spend the night in his office or have Geoffrey drive him home.

When Luc started to gather the empties, one bottle dropped on the floor and spun wildly at Aubrey’s feet before slowing to a stop.  She reached to pick it up and felt its neck, pointing at Luc.  “If this was a game, you’d have to do something,” she teased.  She’d had enough wine to be mellow but she was not drunk.  “You’d have to…you’d have to kiss Sir Josef!”

Of course she would say that.  She believed that Luc was gay.

“Well?” she said.  “What are you waiting for?  Kiss him!”

Luc looked up from where he knelt but stayed where he was, with his gaze focused on Josef’s mouth and a new, lambent light in his eyes.

“No.”  The Dominant spoke, his voice demanding attention.  “Luc, you will kiss Aubrey.  Make her moan, and I shall reward you, using anything here that is your pleasure.”

Robbed of air, Luc forced himself to inhale deeply, exhale slowly.  Heat sparked in his hazel eyes, the flames of awareness fanned by each breath.  Shifting his full attention to Aubrey, he crawled to her with deliberation and sat on the floor by her feet.

Luc ran two fingers along the inside of her calf, beneath the hem of her skirt, and curled his hand around her knee.  “So fucking sexy,” he murmured.  “I want to kiss you here, behind your knee.  Or here.”  His hand moved higher.  “And mark the inside of your thigh with my teeth.”  His other hand traced the neckline of her dress, then slid up her chest to curl around the slender column of her neck.  “I am going to kiss you, ma belle, but I will let you choose where.”

Her blue topaz gaze drifted to his lips, soft and full for a man’s.  She moaned, even before their mouths met.

Pulling her down to him, he brushed his lips across her wide, expressive mouth, teasing her, coaxing a response.  She put her hands on his chest and clutched at the fabric of his shirt, seeking purchase.  After years of self-denial, restraints were shattered with one tremulous breath.  Lips parted.  Tongues parried, locked in a desperate struggle.  He thrust ten fingers into her hair and gripped her head between his hands to control the kiss, commanding her, demanding her submission.

She moaned again, into Luc’s mouth, the sweetest music to a Dominant’s ear.

“Good boy,” Josef crooned.  “That’s enough.  You have earned a reward.  Tell me, what shall it be?”

Luc pulled back, ending their kiss but keeping his forehead pressed to hers when he revealed his darker passions.  “It’s been a while since my last play session.  The cross,” he said softly.  “And the flogger.”

Josef nodded approvingly.  “The cross and the flogger it shall be, but not tonight.  Replay has stringent rules for the protection of all who come here.  You must be vetted, have medical clearance, and pass a psychological evaluation before we go any further.  Eleanor St. Leger must be the one to give it, if you wish my hand to wield the whip.  Sir Piers can arrange anything else you may need.”

Slipping his cell phone from his jacket, he asked Luc for his number and called it.  When Luc’s phone vibrated, Josef ended the call.  “You have my number.  I’m only a text or call away.  For now, though, I shall bid you good night.  As much as I would enjoy spending it together, with the three of us sharing a bed, it is best if the two of you…talk.”

Aubrey looked at him, so innocent, her blue topaz eyes widening when she understood where this was headed.  He wanted them.  Both of them.  Beautiful Luc, with his milk chocolate skin and luscious French Canadian accent.  Sweet, brilliant Aubrey, who glowed with her own inner light.

Leaving them was one of the hardest things he’d ever had to do.

* * *

Luc watched Sir Josef leave, the click of the door punctuating his unexpected departure.  Sighing, he turned back to Aubrey and pressed a brief, fierce kiss against her swollen lips.

He couldn’t wait to feel them on his body.

Patience, he reminded himself.  Things were shifting at warp speed, and Aubrey needed time to catch up.

Still kneeling, he rocked back on his heels.  Aubrey sat in stunned silence, processing what she’d learned.

That he wasn’t gay, he was bisexual.

That he was in the lifestyle.

That he wanted her, and the Dominant Sir Josef wanted them both.

“Talk to me, chérie.  I can see your mind at work.  Tell me what you are thinking.”

“Luc…”  She looked at him—at his shape, he knew, but he felt as if she was looking into his very soul.  “How long?”

“How long have I been in the lifestyle?  Since college.  How long have I wanted you?  Forever,” he admitted.  “But you were too young.  You weren’t ready.  You needed me as a teacher, a mentor, not a lover.  You don’t know how hard it was, watching you grow, bloom, spread your wings and try to fly, then hold your hand when something would send you crashing to the ground.”

Auditions.  Interviews.

Boyfriends.

He regretted that he wouldn’t be her first.  He didn’t know much about her experiences, other than the boyfriends never lasted long once they’d had her.  He could only guess if the breakups were their choice, or hers.

She blinked and shook her head.  “I didn’t know,” she whispered.  “I thought….”

“It doesn’t matter, ma belle.  Here, now.  This is what matters.  We are what matters.  What you want.  What I want.”

She caught her lower lip between her teeth and worried it for a moment.  “What do you want?” she asked at last, her cheeks flushed from the scenarios playing out in her head.

“Tonight, just you.  No kink.  No domination and submission.  Just surrender,” he told her.  “Ma chère, believe me when I say that I will always put your needs before mine.  Trust that I will continue to take care of you, in every possible way.  Give yourself to me, and I will make certain that you never regret it.”

Unfolding his body, he rose to a stand, took her hands, and pulled her up to meet him.  She was such a tiny thing, just two inches shy of five feet.  He’d have to be careful, or he was going to bruise the hell out of that porcelain skin of hers.

He wrapped one arm around her waist, tightening his hold until she was pressed against him.  There was no hiding his arousal.  Letting her feel just how much he wanted her, he lifted her chin, kissed her tenderly, and murmured against her lips.  “I’ve waited years for you to be ready for this.  All you have to do is say yes.  Just.  Say.  Yes….”

“But Sir Josef—”

“Not now.  Not yet.  Maybe…maybe never.  You heard him.  We have to be vetted.  Approved to play before he’ll join us.  And only then with our permission.”

“He wants you,” she whispered, blushing again.  “I could hear it.  Smell it.  And you want him, too.”

“He’s an attractive man,” Luc admitted.  “I know you haven’t seen the actor I’m thinking of, but he’s almost as tall as me.  Thick, wavy hair, and no beard to hide that cleft in his chin.  His eyes are brown and very striking, where he’s a blond.  His clothes are tailored to fit his frame.  He’s trim but muscled, like he plays tennis or racquetball.  Maybe he works out, or runs, like me.  He has a way of looking at you that’s mesmerizing, especially knowing what he is.  What he does.  He’s a unique combination of a doctor and a Dominant, someone who understands the human psyche, who recognizes limits and knows what it takes to push you past them.  If you are going to learn about the lifestyle, you’ll have no better teacher.”

“Except you.”  She kissed him back, softly, hesitantly.  “You’re my teacher.  You should be the one to show me—later.  Not tonight.  Tonight, it’s just the two of us, okay?  I think that’s all I can handle right now.”

“So…that’s a yes?”

She nodded.

Good enough.
