Watch This Space–She Marches Through Fire by A.M. Manay

Copy of vampire road trip facebook ad

Color me excited!  She Marches Through Fire, the third and final novel of A.M. Manay’s November Snow trilogy, is just about to be released.  I’ve already read an advance copy, and it’s mind-blowing.  Here’s what it’s all about:

Psychic vampire November Snow must battle grief, injury, and her own family as she fights evil on all sides. She seeks a cure for the poison sapping her strength and a fairy weapon as powerful as it is dangerous to wield. When it is time to save the innocent and gain justice for her maker, will she find the strength to march through the fire?

As we count down the final days to the March 28th release of She Marches Through Fire, I wanted to share an excerpt with you.  As you can imagine, November gets into some pretty sticky situations in Book 3.  If you want to find out how this one turns out, you’d better get that pre-order in.  Happy reading!

November attempted to join the fight, but it was like swimming in syrup.  A burly, bearded vampire had his arm around her waist and a knife at her throat before she could even get the stake out of her boot.

“Drop it unless you want to lose the girl,” a gravelly voice warned Raina.  “Nobody else needs to die here.”

November shot Raina an apologetic look.  “Sorry.  I was too slow.”

“Not your fault, chère,” Raina absolved her.  “It’s the wound and the morphine.”  She placed her weapon carefully on the bedspread.  “What do you want?”

“Luka and whatever it is he’s here to get,” he replied.  He turned to his blond companion, a twitchy beanpole with a crew cut who put November in mind of a teenaged delinquent.  “Tucker, text Casey.  Tell him we’ve got them, but we lost Marcia.”

Tucker laid down his crossbow and pulled out a phone.

“You have made a grave error in judgment,” Raina warned them.

“Whatever, lady,” Tucker snorted.

“How long have you been a vampire, son?  Five minutes?” Raina retorted.  “That your maker, there?”  Tucker’s nervous glance at his leader answered both her questions.  “What kind of a maker takes his newborn to go after the most powerful creatures on the continent?  How many do you think he’s gone through before you?  How long did Marcia last?”

“Ignore her, Tuck.”

Tuck nodded anxiously and worried at his lip as he completed his text and awaited a reply.  “Frank, Casey says that if we don’t hear from him in 10 minutes, we should kill them.”

“Good luck with that,” Raina said, rolling her eyes.

Tucker picked up his crossbow and pointed it at Raina.  “I’m pretty sure I’ll manage,” he retorted.

“Don’t know why you’d want to,” November piped up.  “Frank, here, will probably just kill you after.  That’s what he usually does after a big score.  Gets rid of the babies, keeps their shares of the money.  Make new ones before the next major job.  Lather, rinse, repeat.”  As she spoke, she slowly slid her hand into the pocket of her hoodie.  “Isn’t that right, Frankie?”

“Shut up,” Frank growled.  He pressed the flat of his blade against November’s neck.  The silver burned her skin, but she didn’t even flinch.  “She’s just making up stories,” he told Tucker.

“Probably why he sent Marcia in first.  Cannon fodder,” Raina nodded, putting on a sad face.  “Shame.  You know who that is, there, right?  That’s November Snow.  The Oracle.  She’s never wrong.  Never.”

“The one Luka took?  The one from D.C.?” Tucker asked, voice cracking.  His head swiveled back and forth, bouncing from Frank to Raina and back again.

“Don’t listen to them,” Frank ordered.  “Don’t worry about what they’re saying.  I order you as your maker.”

Tucker’s face went blank, his eyes cloudy.  After a moment, he shook it off, and his brow furrowed once again.

“See.  He’s had so many progeny that he can’t even compel you.  You make too many, you see, it dilutes your blood magic.  You shook that command off so easily.  Got to have been an awful lot of them, wouldn’t you say, Raina?” November asked.

“Oh, dozens.  At least,” Raina agreed.  “Maybe a hundred.”

Tucker’s crossbow now pointed toward Frank rather than Raina.  He took a step toward his maker.  “What are they talking about?” he demanded.

“Keep it together, Tucker.  We won’t have to work for years if you just hold it together,” Frank urged.  He pulled his knife away from November and pointed it at his offspring, but he kept a tight grip on his captive, careful to keep her body between himself and Raina.

Watch This Space–Spotlight on Jolie Mason

cry-havocOkay you guys.  Not long ago, I featured Jolie Mason’s latest book, Cry Havoc.  But I hadn’t actually finished reading it at the time of the post.  Now that I have, it deserves another spotlight, because it’s just that good!

Here’s my review from Amazon:

As a huge fan of Jolie Mason, I was super excited when I found out that she has a new series. In Cry Havoc, Aiden Simeon is a very young man with a load of responsibilities, not the least of which is the care of his ad hoc family, three orphaned kids for whom he strives to provide. He’s working as a tech with the Lancers, a fact which pleases me to no end–I loved Mason’s 47th Lancers series, and I’m thrilled that she’s brought back some of those characters.

Cry Havoc is fast-paced sci-fi, but it has heartbreaking moments and a deeply character-driven core. Take it from me, you will want in on the ground floor of Jolie Mason’s new War in the Stars series. Can’t wait for the next installment–5 BIG STARS!

Jolie Mason was kind enough to stop by my little blog and answer Pandora’s Dirty Dozen.  So get to know this talented sci-fi romance author.  Who knew she’s into menage books, just like me?  (*cough*  Paging Nia Farrell.  *cough*)

1. Describe your books and your writing style.

Scifi romance and young adult scifi

2. Talk about your process. Where do you write? When do you write? Are you linear or do you write scenes and put them together later? Who are your muses and where do you get your best ideas?

My muses in my genre ( there are many others) are Anna Hackett and Cynthia Sax. Also, AR Declerck, oh, how I love her prose. No one writes prose the way she can. I am most inspired by reading and music.

3. Tell us about your latest release.

Cry Havoc. The first in a series of straight up scifi aimed at younger adults. It’s about so many things; family, loyalty, robots gone horribly awry.

4. What is your current project?

I am currently plugging away at the second in my Brother Assassins series, Brother’s Keeper.

5. Now about you… Very generally speaking, where do you call home?

Southeast Missouri, right on the river. RIGHT on the river.

6. As a reader… What genre do you most often read? What is your all-time favorite book, and why?

Mostly I read future and past. lol. I devour SFR like it’s going out of style, but I also pick up the occasional Paranormal romance and Historicals. Jane Eyre is my go to. I’ve read it probably thirty times in my life, and have multiple highlighted copies around here somewhere.

7. What do you like to do when you’re not writing or reading?

Karaoke keeps me sane, as I struggle with three kids entering the dreaded teen years.

8. We all have guilty pleasures. I enjoy boy bands. There, I said it. What is your guilty pleasure?

Menage books. I have a serious weakness for erotica sometimes, and coffee. Lots of coffee.

9. What superpower would you choose, and why?

As a scifi writer, this is a more serious question than you might suppose. We contemplate this kind of stuff. I would most love to be able to turn invisible at will. Flying would just get me killed. I do NOT want to read the thoughts of random strangers. OMG. There are too many side effects to almost everything psychic, so I would choose sneaky because it has practical applications.

10. If you could live anywhere, you’d choose…

Anywhere? I’d build one of those treehouses like you see on PBS. The kind that are like mansions and have wifi. Then, I’d probably build another and end up with some strange artist’s commune because I cannot stop when I love something.

11. I wish _________________ would read my book.

I don’t know. I get freaked when I know someone’s read it. I wonder endlessly what they thought, so usually I don’t want to know. lol

12. In the airport, you overhear a heated argument between a husband and wife. You:

politely ignore it.
stop what you’re doing and watch with rapt attention.
mention it to airport personnel.

tuck it away for use in a future book.

Now run, don’t walk, to get your copy of Cry Havoc.  Get in on the ground floor of this exciting new series!

Watch This Space–Interview With Eeva Lancaster

Eeva LancasterEeva Lancaster wears many hats.  Her bio on Google+ describes her as a “writer, editor, book designer” and I’m honored to say she designed the covers for Rannigan’s Redemption.

She’s the author of several books, she’s a freelance writer, she’s the owner of the Google+ community Alliance of Self Published Authors, and she’s the creative force behind The Book Khaleesi.  Recently, Eeva responded to Pandora’s Dirty Dozen survey.

Meet Eeva Lancaster.

1. Describe your books and your writing style.

I write mainly non-fiction books. I started off with a poetry book and then my Now What? series. There are so many books in my head. Right now there are 5, but I haven’t found time to write them. I like talking about the elephant in the room. The obvious that few pay attention to. The writing on the wall that we many don’t bother to read. I talk to my readers and get really personal. Since I write from experience, there’s nothing hesitant about my writing. It’s blunt, it’s sarcastic, ironic and real.

2. Talk about your process. Where do you write? When do you write? Are you linear or do you write scenes and put them together later? Who are your muses and where do you get your best ideas?

I get my best ideas from life and people. Honestly, I don’t have a process. One day, I’ll just decide to finish a book, and I sit down and write non-stop. I’ve been a ghostwriter for years, I’m used to cramming. But then I write non-fiction, so my writing process is simpler than those of fiction writers. Research and time = book.

3. Tell us about your latest release.

My last release was You want to be an Online Freelancer… Now What? A guide for people who want to venture into freelancing. It’s based from my own experience. What worked and some of the issues I encountered, and tips and other stuff that can help freelancers succeed. I’m a freelancer first, and an author second. So, there will be more freelancing books in the future. In the pipeline, I have Love Has a Reason. I was planning on a February release, but I should’ve known better. It’s the first of my Happy Ever After series which will mainly discuss relationships. This book debunks the myth of unconditional love. Oh yeah, I haven’t even written it yet and people are already objecting when they see the subtitle on the cover. It will be interesting.

4. What is your current project?

I’m focusing on my author services site The Book Khaleesi. I’ll be adding a pre-made book cover section soon. Aside from that, I’m editing 3 books simultaneously…. and formatting… and doing covers… busy busy.

5. Now about you… Very generally speaking, where do you call home?

Home is The Philippines, happily living in the suburbs with my husband, dog and turtles.

6. As a reader… What genre do you most often read? What is your all-time favorite book, and why?

Supernatural/Fantasy are my favorite genres. But my all-time fave book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. This book shaped my personality. I love the idea that life is not about suffering or sacrifice. It’s about exaltation and doing your best and expecting only what you deserve. About love as a look-up and not a falling down… It’s a wonderful story about how all the thinkers and doers pulled back from society and left the leeches and incompetents to run it.It’s also a love story that is so raw and real, it’s unique. Read it some time. 🙂

7. What do you like to do when you’re not writing or reading?

Just being with my husband. Doing whatever… sometimes we get so busy with other things, you know….

8. We all have guilty pleasures. I enjoy boy bands. There, I said it. What is your guilty pleasure?

Getting a massage. When I’m sad, go to the spa. Happy? Celebrate at the spa. So many excuses to feel pampered and cared for.

9. What superpower would you choose, and why?

At the top of my head I’d say, Read Minds. But on second thought, maybe that wouldn’t be half as fun as I imagine. So, I’d go for…. time travel. So I don’t have to be trapped in situations. I could go back and forth where I’m happiest. That would be cool.

10. If you could live anywhere, you’d choose…

A beach house anywhere. I like living in The Philippines. I don’t dream of living abroad.

11. I wish _________________ would read my book.

Watch This Space–Interview With Fionna Guillaume

Erotic romance author Fionna Guillaume, member of the Alliance of Self Published Authors, was kind enough to answer my interview questionnaire, Pandora’s Dirty Dozen.  Get to know Fionna Guillaume.

1. Describe your books and your writing style.

I absolutely love books. All sorts of genres appeal to me, and I feel like my writing reflects my varied reading appetite. My work is all erotic, for sure, but the priority is the story. Rich description and long, curling paragraphs often find a place in my writing, inspired by masters of long ago. Mostly, though, I just want to tell a great story – with plenty of sexy parts!

2. Talk about your process. Where do you write? When do you write? Are you linear or do you write scenes and put them together later? Who are your muses and where do you get your best ideas?

I write on my laptop. Usually after work, with a mug of tea or a glass of wine, depending on my mood. With my husband playing a video game on his computer in the same room. Not particularly charming, but there it is! I’m a linear writer, I suppose; I start at the beginning, and keep writing until I get to the end. Then, I stop. 🙂 (And edit, but that’s another story.) This means the story may change and develop differently than I originally imagined in my daydreams. But that’s the fun of it!

3. Tell us about your latest release.

I just completed a new novella called Tokyo: A Job With A View. It’s erotica, naturally, but written in the style of a travelogue. Inspired by the year and a half I lived in Japan, it reveals some of Tokyo’s charming attractions and cultural tidbits. It was such fun to relive my experiences there! And, you know, add in all sorts of fun, sexy bits. This is intended to be the first in A Job With A View series. (Next up: Paris!)

4. What is your current project?

I’m working on something a little different these days. It’s an idea I’d been mulling over for years, and finally felt ready to tackle. Using my deck of handmade Tarot cards, I am working through the Major Arcana (a set of 22 cards), and using them as a guide to write my story. The cards give me a theme, a mood, or a direction for each chapter, and I never know in advance quite what will come next. It’s an interesting challenge – and fun! Plus, I’m starting to really get into this story. For this on, I’ve decided to release each chapter on Wattpad as I go along, since every card builds on the previous one. Of course, I’ve had to edit the really fun bits out – Wattpad poo-poo’s erotica for fun’s sake – but never fear! They’l reappear in the final, published eBook version.

5. Now about you… Very generally speaking, where do you call home?

I am fortunate to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Seattle, Washington, to be exact. I find the rainy weather and cloudy skies, plus the extravagant natural beauty of the region, a perfect combination for indoorsy writing and outdoorsy inspiration.

6. As a reader… What genre do you most often read? What is your all-time favorite book, and why?

I can never answer this question! My book diet is very diverse. You can catch me reading memoir, Classics, fantasy or SciFi, nonfiction, historical fiction, YA, romance, contemporary literary fiction… well, pretty much everything except the Encyclopedia. And probably I’ve read some of that, too. Basically, I have no favorite book. But some books linger on my shelf forever, begging to be read again. Jitterbug Perfume, by Tom Robbins, is one of these. It’s sexy, thoughtful, smart, unique, and hilarious – everything I look for in a book.

7. What do you like to do when you’re not writing or reading?

Depends on the weather! Maybe out in the garden, walking or hiking, or enjoying time with friends. I’m never without a book, though. My goodness, what would I do with my time if I wasn’t reading and writing?

8. We all have guilty pleasures. I enjoy boy bands. There, I said it. What is your guilty pleasure?

Hehehee – I’m limited by keeping this one PC! Gummy candy, that’s a pretty guilty pleasure of mine. I can demolish a bag of gummies in one sitting, and only feel moderately guilty about it.

9. What superpower would you choose, and why?

Time travel, for sure. I would love being able to hop back and forth through time, visit historical places, chat with the movers and shakers of their time, and then zip on home to settle on the couch with a movie and a mug of tea.

10. If you could live anywhere, you’d choose…

Well, I kind of have chosen – Seattle! I’ve had the good fortune to live all around the world, and I came right back home. Guess I must love it here!

11. I wish _________________ would read my book.

Tamora Pierce. I loved her as a young reader, and she sticks in my mind as a masterful author. Her stories are thrilling and empowering, especially for girls. Wonder if she’d like girl-power erotica, too?

12. In the airport, you overhear a heated argument between a husband and wife. You:

A. politely ignore it.

B. stop what you’re doing and watch with rapt attention.

C. mention it to airport personnel.

D. tuck it away for use in a future book.

*E. Other :

probably laugh about it to myself. Yeah, I can be that way.
