I’m such a sucker for romantic movies. As with good romance novels, the really great ones touch your heart. You care about the characters and you feel their pain. Or their joy. Maybe it all boils down to great writing. There’s a thought.
I wanted to share scenes from some of my favorite romantic films. There are so many from which to choose, but I’ve narrowed it down to three.
This first clip is from my all-time favorite movie, The Fisher King. This scene never fails to move me with its heartbreaking sweetness. Every girl should have a Parry hopelessly in love with her. One who thinks she’s the greatest thing since spice racks.
I first saw The Bridges of Madison County during a dark period in my life. Like Francesca, I was married to a man I didn’t love, one who’d absolutely squeezed all the affection and joy out of me like an empty tube of toothpaste. The first time I watched this scene, I completely lost it. I was utterly inconsolable.
P.S. I Love You is something of a guilty pleasure. It’s not exactly what you’d call a great film. Even so, it touches my heart deeply. This scene of Holly and Gerry meeting for the first time is full of hope and promise. Like love, I suppose.
There are many other great romantic movies. What are some of your favorites?
You’re a romantic, you 😉
And I miss Robin Williams… 😉
He was the best. 😦
