Weekend Excerpt–RUNNING ROGUE

The past week was literally stellar for Rannigan’s Redemption.  The books in the series received FOUR 5-STAR REVIEWS over the last seven days.  I’m thrilled that the story is still resonating with readers.

Rannigan’s Redemption is a 3-novel erotic romance/law drama about high-profile Manhattan attorney Michael Rannigan and his complicated relationship with smart red-haired Maggie Flynn, the recent law school grad he hires to join his elite firm.  One night of passion tears them apart.  Desperation will bring them back together.  Can Michael find redemption for all the ways he’s failed her?

This week’s excerpt is from the second book in the trilogy, RUNNING ROGUE.

Maggie strode purposefully across the lobby of Michael’s building.  It had been a shit week and knowing that she had to work all weekend to make up for what she’d missed, all she wanted to do was to check in on Michael, deliver his soup, and head home to a nice hot bath and a large glass of wine.  Ahead of her a man was just stepping into the elevator and she increased her pace, hoping to make it before the doors closed.  He turned and their eyes met just as the doors slid shut.

“Well, shit!” she muttered, juggling her purse, her brief case, and the bag from the deli.  Just then the doors slid back open.

“Sorry about that,” the man said, “I didn’t realize you were right behind me.”  He held open the door as she stepped in and turned around.  “What floor?”

Maggie glanced up at him.  He was tall with broad shoulders, muscular without being muscle-bound, with wavy brown hair and sparkling blue eyes framed by the longest lashes she’d ever seen on a man.  She’d noticed a bit of a drawl when he spoke.  Dressed in a t-shirt and sweatpants, he’d apparently been working out in the gym.  He stood beaming at her with a boyish grin on his face and he seemed to be waiting for her.  She realized she was staring.

Oh, shit!  What floor?  “Oh, sorry, um, twenty-one, please.”

He grinned again.  “Twenty-one.  That’s my floor, too.”  He held out a hand.  “I’ve only been here a couple of months.  We haven’t met yet.  I’m Bobby.”

Maggie shifted the deli bag and grasped his hand.  “Um, I’m Maggie.  I don’t actually live here.  I’m visiting a friend.”  She paused.  “Do you know Michael in 2101?”

Bobby’s eyes widened and he took a step back.  “Oh.  You’re one of Michael’s girls.”

Maggie frowned.  “No.  I am absolutely not one of Michael’s girls.  Nope.  Not me.  No way.”  She shook her head emphatically.

Bobby grinned wryly.  “So you’re not one of Michael’s girls.”

She felt her face flush.  “I’ve known Michael for a long time.  We used to work together.  He’s a little…under the weather, and I told him I’d stop by, bring him some soup.”  She held up the deli bag for emphasis.

He flashed the boyish grin, blue eyes sparkling with amusement.  Maggie felt her pulse race and a warm flush crept up her neck.  What the hell?

“So you’re a lawyer.”

She nodded.  “Yep.  Sorry.”

“Why sorry?”

“Everybody hates lawyers,” she replied as the elevator doors opened on the twenty-first floor.  She stepped out into the hallway and immediately went down hard on her left knee.

“Motherfucker!” she cried out.

Bobby was beside her instantly.  “Are you alright?  What happened?”

Maggie looked around.  “My shoe.”  The heel of her right shoe was caught in the space between the elevator and the hallway.  It had snapped off as she stepped forward.  Bobby grabbed it before the doors closed, then gently took her arm and helped her up.

“Did you hurt yourself?” he asked, concerned.

“I’m alright, really,” she replied shakily.  Blood was dripping from her knee and running in rivulets all the way down her shin.

“You banged up your knee.”

“But I saved the soup, so there’s that,” she quipped.

He placed a hand on the small of her back and walked her down the hall, stopping at a door.  “This is me,” he said.  “Come in and let me at least bandage you up.”  Maggie regarded him warily.

“I’m not an axe murderer, I promise,” he laughed.

She frowned.  “Isn’t that exactly what an axe murderer would say?” she said as he unlocked the door.

“Tell you what–we’ll leave the door open.  You can sit right here.”  He pointed to a bench in the foyer.  “If I make any sudden moves you can run for it,” he chuckled.

Sheepishly, Maggie sank onto the bench.  Truthfully, her knee hurt.  She set down her things and glanced up at him.  “Thanks,” she said quietly.

Bobby smiled and gestured to his right.  “I’ll just…go get my axe.”

She could hear him in another room rummaging around through something.  She removed her broken shoe and held up the dismembered heel.  It had come clean off the sole.  An image flashed through her mind of the shoe repair shop just around the corner from her apartment.

“I can fix that for you.”  Startled, she looked up.  Bobby had returned with first aid supplies.

“Oh, you don’t have to do that,” she said quickly.  “There’s a shop near my place.”

He poured alcohol on some gauze and knelt beside her.  “It won’t take me two seconds,” he murmured, dabbing at her knee.

Maggie breathed in sharply.  “Ouch!  Ow ow ow!” she protested softly.

Bobby looked up at her.  “Sorry, cher,” he said, “we’ve got to get it cleaned out.”  Gently he grasped the back of her calf and raised her leg, wiping away the streaks of blood.

Maggie stared at him, scarcely breathing.  There was something electric about his touch, so strong yet so tender.

He finished cleaning her shin and returned to her knee, carefully placing a large bandage over the scrape.  “There you are, good as new.  Well, almost,” he smiled.

He took the shoe and heel from her.  “I really can fix this for you.  I’d just have to find my tools,” he nodded his head toward the other room.  “I should really unpack anyway,” he smiled ruefully.

Maggie rose from the bench and stood lopsided on one heel.  “I don’t want to be more trouble than I’ve already been.”

Something tells me that you’re all kinds of trouble, cher.  “It’s no trouble.  Besides, I’d be worried about you limping along like Quasimodo on your way home,” he laughed.

She laughed, too.  “Well, alright then.  Thank you.  And thanks for…”  She glanced down at her knee.

“It’s my pleasure, cher,” he said quietly.

Maggie felt as though suddenly all the air had gone out of the room.  She stared up into his amazing blue eyes.  She opened her mouth but no words came out.

He spoke.  “Just stop by when you’re finished at Michael’s.  If I have to leave before that, I’ll bring you your shoe.”

Review: Quick and Dirty: Volume Two: Milestones by Patient Lee

I just finished a great book by one of my heroes, erotic realism author Patient Lee.  I always love her books, and was excited to read her second Quick and Dirty anthology. The book includes six great stories that range from sweet and nostalgic to downright dark.  I took my time reading the book, savoring each story in its own right.

Here’s my 5-STAR Amazon review.

Quick and Dirty: Volume Two: Milestones is an anthology of six shorts by erotic realism author Patient Lee. I’m a HUGE Patient Lee fan, and couldn’t wait to read this book. I had no idea what to expect from these stories, other than the usual spot-on human drama and steamy love scenes that are Patient Lee’s signatures. I was not disappointed.

I cheered for the Birthday Girl and for the would-be fiancee in The Side Effect. I felt a sense of the familiar in Wallpaper, and watched it all go wrong in Purple Glitter. Suffocating is dark and twisted, and I appreciated Lee’s preface to the story–it made sense after that. But I lost my heart to Sharing Her Heart–it’s a teaser to Mrs. Maitland’s SAD Valentine, the next Patient Lee book I absolutely have to read.

Love sexy little stories with a different vibe? You will love this book! 5 HUGE STARS!!

Hurry and use this link to get your copy!  You’re going to love it.

I’m Hooked!

I’m write steamy love stories.  I read steamy love stories.  So obviously, I love romance.  But I never thought I’d get hooked on a new reality show.

Have you seen the new NBC show, First Dates?  I never intended to become a fan, I promise.  But it happened to be on one night, and after a few minutes, I couldn’t look away.  The premise is that couples meet at a trendy Chicago restaurant for a blind date.  The hopeful romantics are diverse in age, race, and sexuality, and watching them struggle through awkward introductions is both funny and heart-warming.  I can’t look away, and even my love is hooked, much to his chagrin.

Airing Friday nights on NBC, it’s the Americanized version of the British program of the same name.  Ellen DeGeneres is the executive producer, and the episodes are narrated by Drew Barrymore.

Here’s the official description from the First Dates website.

Everyone can relate to the experience of a first date: the promise of potential love when it goes well and the hilariously awkward moments if it crashes and burns. From Executive Producer Ellen DeGeneres, narrated by Drew Barrymore and based on the hit U.K. format, this new series offers a voyeuristic look at a variety of real first dates happening throughout one night at the same restaurant in Chicago. The daters are of all ages, backgrounds and from across the U.S. The audience comes along for the ride in a refreshingly authentic viewing experience that plays like a real-life romantic comedy. At the end of each episode, we find out if the participants want to see each other again for a second date or if they head back to love’s drawing board.

Here’s a little clip.

And good news–you can watch entire episodes at www.nbc.com/first-dates.

Seriously, how can you resist?  I love LOVE.  Sigh.

Watch This Space–Unorthodox Therapy by Lilah E. Noir

UnorthodoxTherapy

Okay, y’all, you probably remember way back when I helped promote Lilah E. Noir’s Unorthodox Therapy when it first launched.  But at the time, I hadn’t actually read the book.  Now that I have, I need to revisit this recommendation again, because HOLY COW this is a great book!

Unorthodox Therapy is about tough, no-nonsense corporate CEO Lina Riley, who has her company and her whole life under control.  Her addiction to cigarettes is her only vice.  But a hot young programmer, her former personal assistant Thomas Jett, has an idea of how to help her curb her nasty habit.

Have a peek at my review:

Lina Riley is a woman in control. As CEO of her own tech company, she runs a tight ship and is the very definition of calm, cool, and collected. But she also has a vicious nicotine addiction.

Thomas Jett, formerly her personal assistant and currently a rising software developer within her company, has an unusual solution for the one vice Lina can’t seem to control. All she has to do is submit to his Dominance and he’ll guide her to replace the nasty habit with new thoughts and behaviors. She’s at once repelled and intrigued by the idea. Could it possibly work? And is it really about the cigarettes? Or does she have a deep need to relinquish control to someone stronger?

As the Unorthodox Therapy progresses, Lina’s shocked to realize how much she craves Thomas’s control, but she’s terrified–what if the company or their clients find out about her private predilections?

I love the way we get a sense not only of Lina’s misgivings about giving up control to Thomas, but we also understand his concerns and fears about being the kind of Dom Lina needs. The BDSM sex is hot and steamy, but let me tell you, about 3/4 of the way through, a sudden turn of events had me flipping pages so fast I nearly blew up my Kindle. By the end, I was breathless and dying to read the next installment.

Don’t miss Unorthodox Therapy! Lilah E. Noir, write like the wind! I need to know what happens next for Lina and Thomas. 5 HUGE STARS!

The title of my review is “Literally Left Me Breathless,” because that’s exactly what it did.  Of course, the BDSM sex is sultry and then some, but beyond that, we feel for Lina and Thomas as they each struggle with their own demons.  The suspense that’s introduced, however, pushes the whole story over the top, and I’m not kidding when I say that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

Now, notice that the subtitle is Unorthodox Trilogy Book 1.  All I’m saying is, I absolutely cannot WAIT for the next installment.

This is a great book that you should NOT miss!  Trust me on this.  Here’s where you can get your hands on Unorthodox Therapy.

Watch This Space–Highland Pursuits by Emmanuelle de Maupassant

highland-pursuits-a-scottish-romance-by-emmanuelle-de-maupassantEmmanuelle de Maupassant is thrilled to announce the launch of her saucy 1920s romance romp: ‘Highland Pursuits’.

In celebration, Emmanuelle is not only offering three signed paperback copies, via Goodreads here, but has her entire catalogue on sale for 99c/99p from March 1st-8th: Baby Love, Scarlet, Cautionary Tales and Gentlemen’s Club (as recommended by Stylist Magazine)

1920s debutante Lady Ophelia Finchingfield is banished to wildest Scotland to come to her senses, having refused a proposal from the Earl of Woldershire. In the care of her eccentric grandmother, Ophelia is soon caught between rugged widower Hamish and the villainous Comte de Montefiore.

She’s ready to play with fire, but will she burn more than her fingers?

I was fortunate enough to snag an ARC of Highland Pursuits, and trust me, you’re going to LOVE it.  Here’s my Amazon Review:

I loved this book!  But then, I’ve been a huge fan of Emmanuelle de Maupassant since I read The Gentlemen’s Club, which I also highly recommend.  In Highland Pursuits, young Ophelia is sent to visit her grandmother in Scotland as a punishment for declining the proposal of a proper, if boring, suitor.  But her grandmother’s progressive attitudes about life, love, and the role of women in society serve to fuel the fire Ophelia feels.  She’ll not be content to merely be some man’s property.

At their first meeting, she’s not impressed with the brooding but handsome Hamish, nor he with her.  It’s funny how love grows that way sometimes.  But complications abound, and the sexual tension between Ophelia and Hamish is palpable—you just ache for the pair to get together.

I actually read a shorter version of this story as part of an anthology.  De Maupassant has reworked the piece and added a few more nicely spicy scenes.  All in all, just another reason to love Emmanuelle de Maupassant.  5 BIG STARS!!

Listen to what other readers are saying…

I can’t tell you how much I love this book. It was a true delight to read. The author has captured 1920s Britain wonderfully, and her detail is exquisite. – Rachel De Vine

As a comedy of manners, this is exceptionally well done. – Fionna Guillaume

Highland Pursuits is a wry, clever, incredibly sexy romp… a completely engrossing, utterly enjoyable read. I can’t recommend it highly enough…fabulously fun – Malin James

The scene was set beautifully… I felt like I went back in time to high society Scotland – Christine of Sweet and Spicy Reads

Emmanuelle sends enormous thanks to her editor, Adrea Kore, for her help in bringing ‘Highland Pursuits’ into the world. She says: ‘Adrea is an incredibly talented writer, and a wonderful friend. Her editing skills helped bring the words alive. She is a marvel and I’m so glad that one day, forever ago, we found each other.’

‘Highland Pursuits’ draws inspiration from a short story of the same title Emmanuelle wrote originally for the charity fundraising anthology Because Beards: all proceeds have been given to the Movember Foundation.

This longer, novella, length offers more scope to explore the wonderful characters’ eye-popping shenanigans. Hamish and Ophelia were in Emmanuelle’s dreams for many weeks, as she wrote this story.

Pssst…  if you enjoy Highland Pursuits, don’t forget to leave a review. Reviews make books more visible online, bringing new eyes. If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, tag Emmanuelle in your review post and she’ll say hello.

How Have I Lived This Long Without This Book?

Words and Phrases: Make Your Sex Scenes Sizzle by [Devonshire, Sabrina]I love reading and writing sexy romance.  You know those sweet little romance stories where love scenes end with a closed bedroom door?  Those really annoy me.  I know some folks are more comfortable with that kind of thing, but to me, we all know what’s going on.  Why cut the story?  It halts the flow of the story like screeching brakes.

On the other hand, writing hot love scenes can be tricky.  Obviously, you want to avoid ‘purple prose.’  No ‘throbbing manhood’, no ‘petals of lovliness’ for corn’s sake.  But sometimes, you run out of words.

Sabrina Devonshire, talented author of spicy romance has a new book out that will help.  It’s a reference book of sorts, a compilation of descriptive words and phrases that can help you write hot sex scenes readers will love!

Here’s my Amazon review:

This is a terrific resource for writers of spicy romance! As an erotic romance author, I know that I want to create sex scenes that transport the reader into the story. But after a while, I realize that I’m writing the same scenes over and over again. As I try to avoid ‘purple prose’ at all costs, the romance can get a little dry. It can be so frustrating when you want to paint a sexy love scene and you just can’t hit on the perfect word.

Enter talented author Sabrina Devonshire, who has compiled a collection of descriptive words and phrases, a resource for writers to use when they need just the right term to move their love scenes forward. Trust me, this will be at my side from now on. I highly recommend this book for anyone who writes sexy romance! 5 BIG STARS!!

Watch This Space–Nia Farrell’s New Release

Y’all, let me tell you about a hot new book that’s out TODAY!!  Erotica author Nia Farrell writes beautiful, heartfelt, sexy menage tales with a metaphysical flavor.  Her new book, As Wicked As You Want is a sensual historic menage story with plenty of unexpected twists and turns.  I was lucky enough to snag an ARC and here’s my Goodreads review.

As Wicked as You Want (Forever Ours Book 1)As Wicked as You Want by Nia Farrell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was privileged to receive an ARC of Nia Farrell’s new release, As Wicked as You Want. And I couldn’t have been more excited since I’m a huge fan. The story is set in Chicago and London of 1868, a turbulent period in history.

Elena Davenport, alone after the death of her twin brother Lane, assumes his identity and lives as a man, even enlisting and serving in the Union Army. When PTSD forces her to abandon her duty, she forges a living as an artist with the help of her studio assistant, Daniel O’Flaherty, whom she met when they served together. Daniel struggles with the fact that he finds himself drawn to the man he knows as ‘Lane.’

Their lives are changed with the arrival of Elena/Lane’s stepbrother, British history professor Edward Wainwright. The chemistry between Elena and Edward is instant. With the Pinkertons on Lane’s heel for desertion, Lane and Daniel agree to go to London with Edward, who is interested in both Elena and Daniel.

With Daniel making arrangements for the shipping of their belongings, Elena is alone with Edward and quickly reveals her true identity. The question is, what will Daniel think when he finds out she’s a woman? And will he agree to join them as lovers?

This book is full of vivid historic detail and hot menage BDSM sex. It was thrilling from start to finish. And I love the fact that the subtitle is ‘Forever Ours Book 1.’ Because Elena, Edward, and Daniel have known each other before, in previous lives. And they’ll know each other again. Great read, highly recommended, FIVE HUGE STARS!

I snagged this graphic from Nia’s Facebook page.  I know, it says out tomorrow, but it’s out TODAY.  You can get your copy at Amazon.

Watch This Space–Pride And Punishment

In her new release Pride and Punishment, Nia Ferrell has created an extraordinary new book!  She’s taken Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and set it on its head, re-imagining it as an erotic BDSM tale.

Still here are the familiar characters: Mr. Darcy, Miss Bennet, Lady Catherine, Miss Caroline, and the rest, all still maddeningly constrained by the Victorian mores of proper society.  While dealing with a myriad of dramas and emergencies, Mr. Darcy reluctantly gives in to his growing attraction to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, despite the disapproval of his peers and family.

But underscoring the familiar story is his smoldering desire to own her, to see her submit to his darkest fantasies.  Didn’t we all just know that beneath Mr. Darcy’s calm, cool, proper exterior beat the heart of a red-blooded Dominant?

I was privileged to receive an ARC and loved this book from start to finish.  It’s highly recommended!

Pride and Punishment is out today and available here.

Launch Day! Ransoming Redemption!

RR3 out today

Ransoming Redemption, the third and final book in the Rannigan’s Redemption erotic romance triology, is out TODAY!  It’s the conclusion of the story about high-powered Manhattan attorney and inveterate player Michael Rannigan, and his complicated relationship with fellow lawyer Maggie Flynn.

It’s gotten great advance buzz:

I received the ARC of Ransoming Redemption. A privilege for sure. With how Running Rogue ended, I was itching to see what happened to Michael, and if Maggie and Beau fell in love. I must tell you, that there are very few books that made me bawl like a baby. One was Fine Things by Daniel Steele. And that’s who Pandora Spocks’ writing can be compared to. Steele, Jackie Collins. She’s one of the finest Indie writer I’ve met.

In the Finale of Rannigan’s Redemption, Michael Rannigan, a successful, handsome rake tries to make up for his mistakes. In Book 2, he was faced with a challenge that he was forced to face alone – cause he was such an as*h*le – except for Maggie. She stood by him and Michael was determined to make it up to her. He will get his redemption.

Pandora Spocks is an erotic romance writer, and there are hot scenes in this series. But never will you feel that you’re reading smut. The erotic scenes are tasteful, appropriate and darn effective. People make love and so the scenes are there. But more than that, the story touches on many of our personal issues. The fear that we may not have done right in our life, our fear of being alone, our fear of losing the ones we love, and our fear of falling in love and maybe finding the happiness we seek.

This series had such an impact on me. The finale is an emotional powerhouse that made me cry for 2 hours. Yes, while reading. Awesome. Definitely the best book I’ve read so far this year.

Highly recommended must read series.

Ransoming Redemption, along with the rest of the Rannigan’s Redemption series, is available TODAY at these fine online booksellers.

Watch This Space–Jolie Mason

I love to read, been an avid reader since the moment I first read a whole book all by myself (One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish if you’re keeping score).  I love erotic romance, obviously, and thrillers and true adventure.  But I’ll have to admit, I’ve never read much sci-fi romance before.

And then I found Jolie Mason.  Her 47th Lancers series grabbed me my the lapels and threw me down ever since I read Riding Redemption.  Mason’s stories are packed with fast-paced action, softened around the edges by heart-felt romance.

Her new release, Redemption Burning, is no different.  The opening of the story is heart-breaking.  And I’ve said it before, Mason insists on giving us the technical details of battle without dumbing them down.  She trusts us to keep up and it’s a better story for it.

Here’s my Amazon review of Redemption Burning.

Action, Adventure, and Heart-Felt Romance

Confession—I don’t have a lot of experience reading sci-fi romance. Then I came across Jolie Mason. Having thoroughly enjoyed Riding Redemption, I was thrilled to read Redemption Burning, the next installment in Jolie Mason’s sci-fi romance 47th Lancers series.

The book opens with a heart-breaking scene. “Briar” Rose MacClellen is having a conversation with an AI representation of her dead lover, “Beezer.” From beyond the grave, Beezer tells her that she needs to take care of his best friend, Herc. Because as Beezer always knew, Herc was as much in love with Briar as he himself had been in life. And if Briar was honest with herself, she knew about Herc’s feelings all along. And just maybe she has feelings for him, too. Against a backdrop of an epic battle, Briar begins to come to terms with Beezer’s death and the living man who loves her.

I absolutely love this series and this book is a terrific addition. The action is fast-paced and Mason doesn’t dumb down the technical details. The romance is heart-felt and passionate and it all comes together to create an epic story. What a great book!

You can buy Redemption Burning here.  Go on, what are you waiting for?
