10 words to cut from your writing

As Mark Twain famously wrote, “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” His point? Strong writing is lean writing.

When you want to make your writing more powerful, cut out words you don’t need—such as the 10 included in this post:

1. Just: The word “just” is a filler word that weakens your writing. Removing it rarely affects meaning, but rather, the deletion tightens a sentence.

2. Really: Using the word “really” is an example of writing the way you talk. It’s a verbal emphasis that doesn’t translate perfectly into text. In conversation, people use the word frequently, but in written content it’s unnecessary. Think about the difference between saying a rock is “hard” and “really hard,” for example. What does…

I just read a cool, exciting, sexy story by Jolie Mason.  Riding Redemption: The 47th Lancers #1 is a sci-fi thriller with heartfelt, sexy romance.  This is not my usual read, but I have to tell you, I can’t wait to read more of this story.

Thrilling Adventure With a Side of Romance

I loved this story! Wendy, call-sign Dahlia, and Beau, call-sign Jackson, are members of the 47th Lancers, tasked with repelling alien invaders. They also happen to be former lovers. But when Jackson got too close, Dahlia broke it off. Now they struggle to work together and maintain their professionalism.

This story has heart-pounding action and I love the fact that the author doesn’t dumb down the technical details of battle. There’s also hot romance. I can’t wait to read the next installment.

This is a fabulous idea!

wait… I kinda think we do. Without writers and book nerds there would be no Star Wars; no Star Trek, no ipads, no innovation… no inspiration.  We SHOULD have a day…. National Author’s Day. We’d get discounts on ink and paper, there’d be free ebooks given away on publishing… free coffee at starbucks if you come in and work on your book there.

All kinds of stuff 🙂 Let’s make it a thing!!
